PANS and PANDAS

PANS stands for Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome

PANDAS stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections 

PANS encompasses whole group of acute onset cases of obsessive compulsive disorder whereas, PANDAS associated with specific infection and so it is one specific type.

PANS & PANDAS are infection-induced autoimmune conditions that disrupt child’s normal neurologic functioning.

Insight about PANS:

PANS can be triggered by numerous infections which includes mycoplasma pneumonia, herpes simplex, H1N1 virus and other viruses which causes an abrupt onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms.

In this condition an immunological reaction takes place when your child is exposed to infectious agents. This infection triggers misdirected immune reaction where antibodies produced attacks on healthy tissues of brain or portion of brain instead of foreign bodies and that leads to inflammation of portion of brain.
